The information was compiled by Samuel L. Pitkin in 1831 and has since been transcribed into the current volume. There are additions, including births in the 1860s. Also contains some East Hartford history.

Samuel Leonard Pitkin, from East Hartford, CT, entered the American Literary, Scientific, and Military Academy (forerunner of Norwich University) in 1821 and graduated in 1823. Later he was involved in the dry goods business, the manufacture of gunpowder, and banking. Pitkin also served in the Connecticut State Militia from 1823-1838, rising to the rank of major general.
